Cheese and Wine Evening 2 April 2024/Soirée Fromages et Vins 2 avril 2024

 Chers Membres,

Le temps d’hier ne nous a pas été clément. Il était carrément ÉPOUVANTABLE !!!

Cela ne nous a pas empêché de passer une soirée sympathique et très conviviale du  ‘’CHEESE & WINE’’.

La salle de l’École du Vent de Port-Bail, avec sa vue imprenable sur le havre nous a hébergés pour cette occasion. Superbement décorée en blanc et jaune aux couleurs de printemps – grâce aux responsables de notre atelier de bricolage –, elle a fait entrer le soleil qui manquait cruellement dehors !

Vers 18h30, une quarantaine d’amateurs de fromage et de vin ont eu la joie de découvrir Sandra et Roger BATES en visite surprise dans le Cotentin. Quel bonheur de les revoir. De leur côté, ils n’ont pas caché leur plaisir de retrouver leurs amis de l’association.

Une autre magnifique surprise fût aussi de faire la connaissance de MARIE  fille et de BASIL petit-fils de Pierre NANTY, l’un des premiers membres fondateurs, qui nous firent l’honneur de leur présence pour cette soirée spéciale.

Sur les tables bien garnies se côtoyaient fromages anglais et français, Du Cheddar, au Stilton, en passant par l’incontournable Camembert, quelques exotiques comme le fromage de brebis à la truffe, le Tristel aux algues et salicorne et diverses préparations et autres biscuits… évidemment à base de fromage. Le tout accompagné de vins – rouge, blanc & rosé -, de cidre et boissons plus ‘’soft’’.

Un quizz 1994, imaginé par Rob Lovelock fit tourner les petites

 Cellules grises des participants. L’équipe gagnante Cathy, Derek et Aimée partagèrent avec l’assemblée et avec plaisir la boite de chocolats reçue en récompense.

C’est dans cette ambiance ludique et amicale que la soirée s’est dissoute vers 20h30.

Encore un pari gagné pour notre équipe d’organisatrices et d’organisateurs. Merci à eux et aux personnes présentes !

Dear Members,

Yesterday’s weather was not kind to us. It was downright AWFUL!!!

This did not prevent us from having a nice and very convivial evening at “CHEESE & WINE”.

The room of the École du Vent de Port-Bail, with its breathtaking view of the harbor, hosted us for this occasion. Superbly decorated in white and yellow spring colors – thanks to the managers of our DIY workshop – it brought in the sun that was sorely lacking outside!

Around 6:30 p.m., about forty cheese and wine lovers had the joy of discovering Sandra and Roger BATES on a surprise visit to the Cotentin. What a joy to see them again! For their part, they did not hide their pleasure at meeting their friends from the association.

Another wonderful surprise was also to meet the daughter MARIE and the grandson BASIL of Pierre NANTY, one of the first founding members, who honored us with their presence for this special evening.

On the well-stocked tables mingled English and French cheeses, from Cheddar, to Stilton, including the essential Camembert, some exotics like sheep’s cheese with truffle, Tristel with seaweed and salicornia and various preparations and other biscuits… obviously made from cheese. All accompanied by wines – red, white & rosé –, cider and softer drinks.

A 1994 quiz, designed by Rob Lovelock, turned the small grey cells of participants. The winning team Cathy, Derek and Aimée shared with the audience and with pleasure the box of chocolates received as a reward.

It was in this fun and friendly atmosphere that the evening dissolved around 8:30 p.m.

Another bet won for our team of organizers. Thank you to them and to those present!

Christmas Day Lunch/Dejeuner de Noel

12 members of the association enjoyed a Christmas Day lunch at the Royal Wok in La Glacerie, Cherbourg.
